Planning, training, quality management and field operations to IMAS
Manual mine clearance is the systematic detection, excavation and removal or destruction of landmines and explosive remnants of war (ERW) by trained deminers working in marked lanes with metal detectors, prodders and excavation tools. GEODE helps national mine action authorities, international organisations, NGOs and private operators plan, train, supervise and quality-manage manual demining projects, and mobilises the operational capacity of the DEMINETEC Group when field teams are required.
Manual clearance remains the reference method for releasing land to a defined depth with a high level of confidence, particularly in vegetation, rocky ground, village surroundings and areas where machines cannot operate. Each deminer works in a marked lane: vegetation is cut, the ground is searched with a detector, each signal is investigated by prodding and excavation, and every item found is identified and destroyed or removed according to approved procedures. Productivity depends on soil, vegetation, metal contamination and the threat, which is why planning and quality management matter as much as the work in the lane.

GEODE has been part of the DEMINETEC Group since 2022. Clearance and demining references of the group include Syria (2018–2019), Azerbaijan and Georgia (2015–2016), Belgium (2023), the Philippines (2025), Libya and North Macedonia (2026). The group's international references cover more than 30 countries on five continents (DEMINETEC Group international references).
Manual clearance relies on deminers who detect and excavate each signal by hand in marked lanes. Mechanical clearance uses machines (flails, tillers, vegetation cutters, ground-preparation machines) to process ground faster. Machines are usually combined with manual or animal detection teams to confirm the result.
The main references are IMAS 09.10 (clearance requirements), IMAS 07.11 (land release) and IMAS 09.30 (EOD), together with the national mine action standards of the country concerned.
Yes. GEODE designs and delivers on-site training for deminers, team leaders, NTS/TS teams, EOD operators and QA/QC agents, as it did in Tajikistan and Benin, including training of trainers to build national capacity.
